Six people were killed when a car crashed into a work zone on I-695 in Baltimore County Wednesday afternoon, Maryland State Police confirmed.
According to Maryland State Police, the driver of a gray Acura, identified as Adrianna Lea, 54, of Randallstown, attempted to change lanes around 12:40 p.m., when the Acura struck the passenger side front corner sign of the Volkswagen. , was stopped on the road as it was disabled, police said.
This caused Leah to lose control, police said. According to preliminary investigation, the car went between temporary barriers, hitting several construction workers.
Leah survived and was taken to a local trauma center where she was being treated as of Wednesday night, police said. Police said no one else was in the car at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Volkswagen was identified by state police as Melachi Brown, 20, of Windsor Mill. He was not injured, police said.
The Maryland State Police Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash. The identity of the victim is pending further notification of next of kin.
According to the Maryland Department of Transportation, certain lanes on I-695 before exit 17 are closed and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
