Meghan McCain slammed Republicans on Tuesday after the House voted to remove former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

Eight Republicans, led by Rep. Matt Gates (R-Fla.), joined Democrats in voting to remove McCarthy as speaker on Tuesday.
The committee cited McCarthy’s decision to pass a continuing resolution to keep the government open on Saturday as a reason for his ouster. The 45-day resolution would continue current funding levels with little change, while Gaetz and hard-line conservatives wanted a budget with significant cuts.
“The American people need a speaker who will fight to keep the promises Republicans made to win the majority, not a fiscally irresponsible deal-breaker who gets more Democratic votes than Republicans,” said Rep. Bob Goode (R-Va.), who voted to impeach McCarthy. Report Before the vote.
Representative Patrick McHenry (RN.C.) acts as Speaker Pro Tempore in the Speaker’s absence. It was not immediately clear when the House would begin voting to elect a speaker or if McCarthy would try to regain his job.
