Former SAG-AFTRA President Melissa Gilbert has blasted SAG-AFTRA’s message, which urged its members not to dress up as characters from organizations they’ve attacked on Halloween.
SAG-AFTRA posted a post on its website encouraging members to “celebrate Halloween this year, while being united.” The guild recommends “choosing costumes inspired by common characters and figures,” including “ghosts, zombies, spiders, etc.,” or “characters from non-hitting content like an animated TV show.”
Gilbert was outraged by the suggestions.
“Is this what you bring? Nobody cares what anyone wears for Halloween,” Gilbert wrote on Instagram. “I mean, do you really think this kind of baby stuff is going to end the strike? We see it as a joke. Please say you are going to scrap this rule… go negotiate!”
Gilbert directly tagged the Instagram accounts of current SAG-AFTRA president Fran Treasure and chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland.
“For the love of God, people are suffering and this is what you have to say… Guys… this is the stupid nonsense that keeps us on strike. ‘Let’s enact a policy that makes us look petty and incompetent at the same time.’
Gilbert was president of the Actors Guild from 2001 to 2005.
