2018 in London, Ont. The Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils and Calgary Flames, the three NHL clubs facing sexual assault allegations in the city, will receive salary cap relief, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daley confirmed Monday. .
Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote and Dillon Dube have all been charged with one count of sexual assault, and McLeod faces an additional count of sexual assault. Hart, McLeod, Foote and Dube were granted leave from their respective NHL clubs last month to handle their legal proceedings. Formenton was playing abroad for HC Ambrì-Piotta, where he was granted leave to return to Canada to face his legal problems.
Hart is in the final year of a three-year contract with the Flyers that will pay him $3.979 million this season. According to CapFriendly, Hart has $1,512,849 remaining on his contract through the regular season.
Dube is making $2.3 million per season in the final year of a three-year contract with the Flames. According to CapFriendly, the Flames have $874,479 left on Dope's contract through this season.
The Devils have both Foote and McLeod under contract for this season. McLeod's contract pays him $1.4 million this season and has $532,292 remaining on his contract this season. Foote's contract is worth $800,000 and has $304,167 remaining through the 2023-24 season.
None of the players charged by the London Police Department have NHL contracts that run beyond this current season.
“Well, they're away from their teams right now and they're all (pending) free agents,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said at this weekend's NHL All-Star Game. “Personally, if I were them, I would focus on defending themselves, assuming the charges would be dropped. I'd be surprised if they play while this is pending.
