Lexie Thompson, 29, is set to retire after the 2024 LPGA season

Lexie Thompson announced She will retire From full-time golf after the 2024 LPGA season.

Thompson, 29, made the announcement days before the start of the US Women’s Open, which starts on Thursday at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday afternoon, Thompson said he will see how he feels next year and decide which tournaments he might want to play on a part-time schedule in the future.

“I’m taking it day by day right now,” Thompson said. “I’m not going to say yes or no on how many events I’ll play or play. I’m going to take it day by day and see how I feel, especially going into next year. But I’m very content with this being my last full-time schedule year.”

This will be Thompson’s 18th consecutive appearance at the US Women’s Open. She was 12 years old when she became the youngest golfer at the time to qualify for the 2007 US Women’s Open.

Thompson has 15 wins worldwide since turning pro in 2010, with his only major win coming at the 2014 Chevron Championship. She has not won on the LPGA Tour since 2019.

On tour this season, Thompson Has finished T16 and T3But she has missed four of her last five cuts, including three prior to this week’s US Women’s Open.

“While these accomplishments are significant in themselves, Lexi’s impact extends beyond the golf course,” said LPGA Commissioner Molly Marcoux Saman. “She embodies the spirit and commitment of our founders – always intentionally showing up and engaging to help further the growth and impact of the LPGA. She is loved by fans and can be seen signing autographs and interacting with fans regardless of the outcome on the day. Lexi’s remarkable career and the way she conducts herself on and off the course will be remembered around the world. It has inspired countless women to pursue their goals with passion and perseverance.

After winning the US Women’s Junior Championship in 2008, Thompson won the 2009 US Women’s Open at the age of 14. Two years later, she won the first of her 11 LPGA victories at the Navistar LPGA Classic.

Thompson has represented the United States at the Solheim Cup six times, winning twice in 2015 and 2017. He was also on the US Olympic teams in 2016 and 2021.

Last October, Thompson became the seventh woman to play in a PGA Tour event when she competed in the Shriners Children’s Open. Following a 73 in Round 1, he finished under par after posting a 69 in his second round, but missed the cut by two strokes.
