Why does Ford offer do-not-drive on some vehicles with Takata airbags?
Ford says the age of the vehicles makes it “highly possible” that a part inside the airbag could explode during crashes and eject sharp pieces of metal, which could cause serious injury or death to the driver or passengers.
Ford says it has made more than 121 million outreach efforts in the U.S. to date and more than 95% of U.S. customers have completed recalls.
Approximately 374,300 airbag inflators in Ford and Lincoln vehicles are affected in the United States, and 765,600 worldwide.
What to do if your vehicle is affected by a do-not-drive advisory
Ford says parts are now available. Customers can request mobile service or dealers can tow vehicles directly to the dealer for repairs.
Dealerships will also offer a free interim loaner vehicle while repairs are needed, if needed.
Ford said it will continue to notify owners aware of the recall each month with an updated drive-not-drive advisory. To see if your vehicle is part of the recall, visit one of the twowww.ford.com/support/recalls/ Ornhtsa.gov/recalls.
