CHICAGO – A mail carrier walking a route in Chicago has been shot and killed, authorities said.
U.S. Postal Service investigators are offering up to $250,000 for tips that solve the case.
Octavia Redmond, 48, was shot to death on South Harvard Avenue on Chicago’s South Side around noon Friday, police said. The shooter fled in a vehicle.
James McGee said he had been working in his yard moments earlier when he and Redmond exchanged greetings and talked about the nice weather.
Kim Saunders, a neighbor who works at the home, said she was heartbroken by Redmond’s death.
“She would come up and down the block and deliver the mail and not bother anybody,” Sanders said.
A flag was lowered at a union hall in honor of Redmond, who delivered the mails for more than 15 years. Her husband also works in the postal department.
“We are central government employees. how dare you And think you can get away with it? My members are afraid to go to work,” said Elise Foster, local of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
