“Starsky & Hutch” star Paul Michael Glaser paid tribute to his longtime friend David Soul following his death this week.
“David was a brother, a friend, a caring man,” Glazer said in a statement to the people. “We shall never see his like again.”
“It's hard for me to understand David's death. It seems like only yesterday that we were sharing affectionate insults on the phone,” continued Glazer, who plays David Michael Starsky on the hit series.
“It will take time, I tell myself; and I suspect that I shall only allow my loss, our loss, to be felt gradually, in saying goodbye to such a dear friend, and such an important part of my life.
Glaser, 80, said his former co-star “loved and adored” his wife, Helen Snell, who “stood by him through these difficult years.”
“He could never tell me what she meant to him,” he added. “To his sons and his daughter China, my deepest sympathies.”
He concluded, “All of you, our supportive and caring public, never stop telling us what a wonderful relationship we have. Thanks. We have all lost a dear friend who lives on in our memories.
The buddy cop drama aired from 1975 to 1979 and followed two California detectives. Soul Sergeant Kenneth played Richard “Hutch” Hutchinson.
Actor Ben Stiller played David Starsky in the 2004 remake alongside Owen Wilson. Wrote in X, “Defining '70s Cool. Rest in peace x.”
The actor died on Thursday at the age of 80.
