Harris Teeter Suspends Tele Services Everywhere: Here’s Why

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Harris Teeter temporarily closed delis at each of its U.S. locations Friday because of a pig’s head recall due to a listeria concern.

The supermarket chain — which operates nearly 70 locations in North Carolina — announced Friday, July 26, that all in-store delis will be temporarily closed. The closures are due to a nationwide pork head recall that affected many of the deli meat brand’s products, including deli meat and liverwurst used by Harris-Teeter.

“In response to the Class 1 recall of certain pig’s head products, Harris Dieter has implemented its standard recall protocol, which includes immediate product removal and customer notification,” the company said in a statement. “Out of an abundance of caution, Harris Dieter has voluntarily suspended selected operations for thorough cleaning and sanitation across its fresh foods market departments.”

Harris-Teeter’s fresh foods market departments will reopen later Friday, officials said. The grocery chain is expected to provide updates Here on its website.

Pig’s Head Friday More than 207,000 pounds of product were recalled Due to potential Listeria contamination. Listeria is a foodborne bacteria that can cause mild to severe infections if consumed.

The pig’s head Listeria contamination was detected during sample testing by the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service, the agency said. Tested on unopened liverwurst preparation. Additional products made “in the same line and on the same day as liverwurst” are also being recalled, According to the recall notice.

Below are the pig’s head products recalled Friday:

  • Buns in 3.5-lb plastic wrap, or various weight packages cut into retail delis, are labeled “Boar’s Head Strasburger Brand Liverwurst Made in Virginia.” The products were shipped to retailers with dates printed on the side of the packaging from July 25 to August 30.
  • 9.5-lb and 4.5-lb. Whole product, or various weight packages cut in retail delis, product packaging includes “Pig’s Head Virginia Ham Old Fashioned Ham” sold by “August 10″ date.
  • 4-lb., or various weight packages cut at retail delis, the product packaging contains an “Aug. 10″ sell-by date of Hog’s Head Italian Cappy Style Ham.
  • 6-lb., or various weight packages cut at retail delis, the product packaging reads “Pig’s Head Extra Hot Italian Cappy Style Ham” sell by August 10″ date.
  • 4-lb., or various weight packages cut into retail delis, product packaging contains a “Pig’s Head Bologna” sell by date of “August 10”.
  • 2.5-lb., or retail delis cut-weight packages of various sizes, product packaging includes a “sell by date of August 10th Hog’s Head Beef Salami”.
  • 5.5-lb., or retail deli cut-to-size packages of various weights, product packaging includes a “Pig’s Head Steakhouse Fried Bacon Heat & Eat” sell by date of “August 15”.
  • 3-lb., or retail deli cut-to-size packages of various weights, the product packaging contains a “sell by date of August 10th Hog’s Head Garlic Bologna”.
  • 3-lb., or retail deli cut-to-size packages of various weights, the product packaging contains a “sell by date of August 10th Hog’s Head Beef Bologna”.
