Hundreds gathered to pay their respects to 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungere, who was found murdered in a creek in north Houston.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Hundreds of people gathered Friday night to remember Jocelyn Nungere, a teenager who was murdered and then dumped in a creek in north Houston.

Among those in the crowd were Jocelyn’s family, Mayor John Whitmire, HPD President Larry Satterwhite, Jim “Mattress Mac” McIngvale and some of her friends.

“Jocelyn, she was a great friend and she always made everyone feel included,” Olivia Stevens said.

A group of five girls from Conroe came with their parents. They were all classmates at Gordon-Reed Elementary until last March when Jocelyn moved to North Houston.

The girls shared videos and pictures, filling many booking phones.

Friday night, the laughter and silly dances are gone.

“It’s like so many emotions. It’s like anger. It’s sadness. It’s everything, and it’s heartbreaking,” said Abby Bohannon. “Hard to understand. Hard to believe such a sweet little girl, yes. So, hard to believe and sad.”

Emotions are hard to navigate.

“To be here for her,” Catherine Musoni said through tears.

They are all 12 years old.

“It’s because we’re all so young that no one has to go through something like this,” Bohannon added.

“It’s just crazy. It’s hard to fathom,” said Sophia Johnson.

The girls said Jocelyn shares her dreams with them.

“She was always positive, she always had a smile on her face, her smile was so contagious,” Belen Pereira said.

Summers should be carefree at their age. They said 7th grade will be even harder knowing that Jocelyn is gone.

“We’re praying for her and her family and we want to support them,” Stevens said.
