Team USA will feature some heavy hitters at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
USA Basketball is finalizing its roster for summer sports featuring LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Joel Embiid. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports. The list also includes Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, Tyreese Halliburton, Anthony Edwards, Jrue Holiday, Bam Adebayo and Anthony Davis.
According to the report, Team USA may choose to keep a spot open early on. The team will be coached by Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue, Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and Gonzaga coach Mark Few will serve as his assistants.
Tatum, Durant, Booker, Holiday and Adebayo return from the team that won gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. James wasn't on that team; He returned to the Olympics for the first time since the U.S. team won gold in London in 2012.
This was James' fourth Olympic appearance. He won gold with Team USA in 2008 and bronze in 2004, the last time the United States did not claim a gold medal.
The Paris Games will be Curry's first Olympics. He was expected to play for the U.S. team in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, but withdrew due to knee and ankle injuries.
The games will be the first for Embiid, who has committed to playing for Team USA against France or his native Cameroon in October. Embiid holds dual citizenship between the United States and France.
Team USA is looking for redemption after failing to medal at the FIBA World Cup in the Philippines last summer. But a host France team featuring Victor Wembayama and Rudy Gobert could see stiff competition from a Serbia team featuring Nikola Jokic and a Canadian team featuring Shai-Gilgeous Alexander.
