During a rally in New Hampshire on Friday, January 6, 2021, while discussing the attack on the Capitol, former President Trump, former U.N. It appeared to include Ambassador Nikki Haley and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
“”Look at all the people out there – you've got a lot of people. It must be a strange little part. It's not weird at all,” Trump told a rally of supporters in Concord, NH, noting the size of the crowd, then adding. “You know when [Haley] She came here like nine people, a crowd you know the press would never report on.
On January 6th they did not report the meeting and destroyed everything. All of this,” Trump said nonchalantly. “Because of a lot of things like Nikki Haley being in charge of security — we gave her 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard, whatever they wanted. They rejected it. They don't want to talk about it. They are very dishonest.
During his remarks, Trump confused Haley for the former House speaker. However, Pelosi's office pushed back against accusations by Republicans, who blamed security at the Capitol under her leadership on the day of the riot.
“On Jan. 6, the speaker, the target of the assassination attempt that day, was no more in charge of Capitol security than Mitch McConnell was,” said then-Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill. He explained to the Associated Press In July 2021. “This is a clear attempt to whitewash and deflect blame for what happened on Jan. 6.”
The National Guard Council is not directed by the Speaker.
Footage released during one of the House Select Committee's hearings investigating the Jan. 6 rebellion showed Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) talking to cabinet members and governors about the Capitol attack.
President Biden's campaign mocked Trump in an apparent mix-up.
“Deeply confused Trump repeatedly confuses Nancy Pelosi and Nikki Haley: Nikki Haley takes over Jan. 6,” they Wrote in X, formerly Twitter. “They don't want to talk about it.”
